Challenge #2 · motor-controls
Let Go and It Quits
Operator presses START and the motor runs, but only while they hold the button. The instant they let go, it stops. They have to stand there holding START to keep it going.
① Run your checks
② Make the call
③ Explain your reasoning optional
A strong answer covers:
- What you did: confirmed control power is present and both buttons function (it runs while START is held), then checked the seal-in (M aux) contact parallel to START.
- The reason: it runs while START is held but drops the instant START opens, so the maintaining/seal-in path that should hold the coil in is open.
- Determined outcome: 3-wire control seals itself in through the contactor's own aux contact parallel to START; that contact (or its wire) is open, so fix the seal-in path, don't swap the button or coil.
